The Many Types Of Charity And Volunteer Programs

There’s one in every neighborhood. Maybe it’s a family that’s getting ready to lose their home.  Maybe it’s a handicapped person who can’t get around very well or an elderly individual doesn’t get out very often.  All around us are opportunities to show some charity and participate in volunteer programs.

Donating to charities is a wonderful way to contribute to the community.  If you don’t have the time to volunteer, sometimes just some can goods or blankets can make all the difference.  Of course, cash is always welcome.
A charity car auction or a car donation for cancer is a great way to raise money for a specific cause.  Cancer research fundraising is done the marathons, dinners and the selling of many different products. Money will go directly to the charity to help out with research, supplies or general operating expenses. You can sometimes designate exactly where you want the money to be used. It’s not hard to donate a used vehicle.  There are many vehicle donation programs to choose from and the charities will gladly help you out with the paperwork, If you want to donate a car for tax write offs.

Youth group fundraisers abound from selling candy and wrapping paper to pears and apples.  As schools appear to be chronically underfunded, these candy and cookie dough fundraisers make all the difference for many extracurricular activities as well as new science equipment, new books, etc. You don’t have to look too around the area to find someone selling hotdogs for new football uniforms.

If you want to know what “poor” really is check out volunteer programs overseas.  Charities for Africa for instance, ask for the essentials like shoes and food.  There is never a shortage of need.  Daily survival is a monumental chore in many cases.  If a country is torn apart by war, the definition of essentials includes land that is free of mines.  Fresh water is a big deal and being able to find food that is not rancid is something many people take for granted.

That is why great charity work and volunteering is so important.

We try to donate to cancer research since my mother died of cancer years ago. It is a nasty way to go. I hope that someday they will find a cure for this.

I try to give to my local community. I know that the money will be put to good use. I am never sure if I would send the money to some foreign country how muc would actually get to the people that need it.

The economy seems to be in the doldrums the likes I have never seen in these 50 years. All the charities will have to work together to pick up the slack.
